AMR Awareness week

Did you know its AMR Awareness week?

What’s AMR I hear you say? Well let me tell you….

AMR stands for Antimicrobial Resistance. The World Health Organization run a global awareness week every year to raise the profile of Antimicrobial Resistance. The aim of the week is to help educate, advocate and reinforce the message to prevent the development of resistance.

AMR occurs when bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi become resistant to antimicrobial medicines that are used to treat the infections they cause. As a result of AMR, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections increasingly difficult – or even impossible – to treat.
